Using Eclipse and IntelliJ IDEA via Aalto VDI

If you cannot install, for one reason or another, Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA in your own computer, you can use the Aalto Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). But note that using an installation in your own computer can be much smoother than via VDI.

To use Aalto VDI, do the following:

  1. Read the Aalto VDI instructions.

  2. Log into Aalto VDI by using either the client or the HTML access at vdi.aalto.fi.

  3. Select “Ubuntu 18.04”

After this, you have access to your Ubuntu desktop in an Aalto computer. You can use Firefox to log into A+, fetch the assignment packages, and submit your solutions.

Eclipse

By using the lower left corner “Show Applications” button, search and select “Eclipse Scala IDE 4.7.1”.

IntelliJ IDEA

First use:

  • By using the lower left corner “Show Applications” button, search and select “Xterm”.

  • In the terminal, type idea and hit return.

Next times:

  • By using the lower left corner “Show Applications” button, search and select “IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition”.
